FBI Director Christopher Wray revealed that terrorist threats towards the United States have surged since the October 7th attack on Israel.
During a hearing on Tuesday, FBI Director Christopher Wray testified that the terrorist threats aimed at the U.S. have escalated since the war between Israel and Hamas began on October 7th.
Wray expressed his concern to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, stating that he sees “blinking red lights everywhere,” referring to the unexpected surge in terror threats during the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) asked Wray for his opinion on the current “threat matrix” facing the U.S. during the hearing.
“What I would say that is unique about the environment that we’re in right now in my career is that while there may have been times over the years where individual threats could have been higher here or there than where they may be right now, I’ve never seen a time where all the threats or so many of the threats are all elevated, all at exactly the same time,” the FBI director told Graham.
“So, the blinking red lights analogy about 9/11 — all the lights were blinking red before 9/11, apparently,” Graham said. “Obviously, all of us missed it. Would you say there’s multiple blinking red lights out there?” he asked.
Wray answered, saying, “I see blinking lights everywhere.”
Later, Wray informed Graham that since the start of the war on October 7th, a “veritable rogue’s gallery of foreign terrorists” has issued threats against the U.S.
“The threat level has gone to a whole other level since October 7th,” Wray emphasized.
The director’s remarks on Tuesday align with his previous warning to Senate lawmakers in October, where he stated that the actions of Hamas and its allies would serve as an “inspiration the likes of which we haven’t seen since ISIS launched its so-called caliphate several years ago.”
“The reality is that the terrorism threat has been elevated throughout 2023, but the ongoing war in the Middle East has raised the threat of an attack against Americans in the United States to a whole other level,” the FBI director testified at the time.
