FBI Investigating George Santos’ Alleged Involvement In ‘GoFundMe Scheme’: Report
Enforcement of federal law Officials are investigating Rep. George Santos (R.NY) for his involvement in an alleged scheme to rob a bank. “GoFundMe scheme” that was set up for a disabled U.S. Navy veteran’s dog.
Santos Telled Politico that two FBI agents contacted Richard Osthoff, the disabled Navy veteran, as part of an investigation being conducted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York.
Osthoff claims that Santos raised $3,000 to pay for the life-saving surgery for his pit bull, and then ran away with the money. Agents were reportedly given text messages by him to Santos.
“I’m glad to get the ball rolling with the big-wigs,” Osthoff stated this Wednesday. “I was worried that what happened to me was too long ago to be prosecuted.”
The first text messages, which were reported by PatchAccording to reports, Santos was referred to as Anthony Devolder in the photos. He claimed that he owned a charity for pets called Friends of Pets United.
The New York Times reported December showed that there was no proof the charity existed.
A freshman congressman who admitted to lying about his personal and professional life is now under investigation by federal and local authorities.
“With the ongoing attention surrounding both my personal and campaign financial investigations, I have submitted a request to Speaker McCarthy that I be temporarily recused from my committee assignments until I am cleared,” Santos In a statement “This was a decision that I take very seriously.”
“The business of the 118th Congress must continue without media fanfare,” He went on. “It is important that I primarily focus on serving the constituents of New York’s Third Congressional District and providing federal level representation without distraction.”
Santos has already admitted He also admitted that he lied about working at Citigroup and Goldman Sachs. Santos also admitted to embellishing details about his personal life and religion as well as his sexuality.
The New York Times reported Earlier this month, Brazilian law enforcement officers were interviewed. “intend to revive fraud charges” Santos was charged in connection to an incident that occurred in 2008, involving a checkbook that was allegedly taken.
