FBI lawyer cautions agent against answering GOP queries on Hunter Biden probe.
An FBI Attorney Warns Agent-Turned-Whistleblower Not to Answer GOP Committee’s Questions
An FBI attorney sent a warning to an agent-turned-whistleblower who had been investigating Hunter Biden. The agent was scheduled to testify before the GOP-run House Oversight Committee, which is looking into allegations that the FBI and the Department of Justice intentionally undermined their own case against the president’s son.
The letter, sent by FBI general counsel Jason Jones, was delivered just hours before the agent’s expected testimony. The committee is investigating claims that the investigation into Hunter Biden’s tax and gun charges resulted in a lenient plea deal due to manipulation.
According to the New York Post, Jones wrote, ”The Committee has expressed interest in certain events that occurred in December 2020 during this investigation. Department officials, including those who have left the Department, are obligated to protect non-public information they obtained during their work. This information may be subject to various privileges, such as law enforcement, deliberative process, attorney work product, attorney-client privileges, and privacy interests.”
The letter emphasized that the agent was prohibited by law and department policy from disclosing classified information, sources and methods, protected grand jury information, protected taxpayer information, and the deliberative processes involved in investigative and prosecutorial decisions. Jones also issued a warning, stating that the agent should not respond to questions seeking non-public information that could be covered by executive privilege or other significant confidentiality interests.
The letter instructed the agent to defer to the FBI’s Office of Congressional Affairs, allowing the Department of Justice to balance the committee’s need for information while protecting executive branch confidentiality interests.
Confirmation of Allegations by IRS Whistleblowers
The House Oversight Committee revealed that an FBI special agent confirmed allegations made by two IRS whistleblowers. The agent testified that the Secret Service headquarters and the Biden transition team were informed in advance of the IRS and FBI criminal investigators’ interview with Hunter Biden in December 2020.
As a result, the IRS and FBI investigators were unable to interview Hunter Biden as part of their investigation. The committee stated, ”The former FBI supervisory special agent told committee investigators he had never been told to wait outside to be contacted by the subject of an investigation. The agent’s testimony is sickening and reveals the lengths to which the DOJ is willing to go to cover up for the Bidens.”
