FBI whistleblower confirms Biden team alerted about Hunter Biden interview plan.
The 2020 Transition Team of Joe Biden Informed in Advance of FBI Interview with Hunter Biden
In an intriguing revelation, a whistleblower—the former FBI supervisor responsible for initiating the investigation into Hunter Biden—has disclosed that the 2020 transition team of then-President Elect Joe Biden was informed beforehand about the FBI planning an interview with the president’s son.
The interview, scheduled for December 8, 2020, involved FBI and IRS agents. However, they were unexpectedly instructed to stand down on the morning of the interview, as revealed by the whistleblower during an interview with the House Oversight Committee on July 17. The transcript of the interview was released by the committee on August 14.
This early tip-off was previously disclosed by Gary Shapley, a former IRS investigator turned whistleblower, who oversaw the investigation on the IRS side. The FBI whistleblower, who remains anonymous, stated that the agencies joined their probes in April 2020.

The whistleblower revealed that he initiated the investigation into Hunter Biden in 2019 and became the most senior supervisor in the FBI Wilmington Field Office around 2019-2020.
According to the transcript, the whistleblower stated, “The initial plan was to make approaches of multiple witnesses, to include subject Hunter Biden, on December 8th.” Since Hunter Biden was already under Secret Service protection, the agents decided to notify the Secret Service to avoid any confusion or misunderstanding.
The whistleblower further explained, ”The initial plan was to have the local field office of the Secret Service be notified the morning of [Dec. 8, 2020,] to diminish opportunities for anybody else to be notified.” He mentioned working with his management and FBI headquarters on this matter.
On the evening of December 7, the whistleblower recalls a conference call with his superiors, during which he learned that FBI headquarters had informed not only the local Secret Service office but also the Secret Service Headquarters and another party.
Upon hearing Gary Shapley’s testimony, the whistleblower remembered that the other party mentioned was the “transition,” which he understood to be the Biden transition team.
He expressed his frustration, stating, “I remember that’s why I was upset that evening, that somebody beyond Secret Service was notified.” While he understood the need for FBI headquarters to inform the Secret Service headquarters, he believed that the transition team did not need to be informed.
The whistleblower never discovered who made the decision to tip off the transition team, but it was evident that it was not his immediate supervisor.
On the morning of December 8, 2020, as the interview time approached, the whistleblower received more disappointing news. He was informed by his assistant special agent in charge that they would not be allowed to approach the house. Instead, they were instructed to provide their information to the Secret Service and wait for further instructions.
The agents waited a block or two away from the house, hoping for a response, but none came. Consequently, they moved on to the next interview scheduled for that day.
Reflecting on the situation, the whistleblower shared, “It was frustrating, and I know [Mr. Shapley] was very frustrated.”
Later that day, the whistleblower received a call from Hunter Biden’s lawyer, who identified himself as representing Hunter Biden and requested all further communications to go through him.
In the end, the agents were unable to interview Hunter Biden, according to the whistleblower.
In June, David Weiss, a U.S. Attorney in Delaware, brought three charges against Hunter Biden—two misdemeanor counts of failure to pay taxes and illegal gun possession. Initially, Hunter Biden agreed to plead guilty to the tax crimes and resolve the gun charge through a pretrial diversion, which would likely have spared him any prison time.
However, on July 26, U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika criticized the plea deal as “atypical” and “unprecedented.”
The investigation continues.
