FedEx plane skids off runway but lands safely at Tennessee airport without landing gear.
Plane Skids off Runway in Tennessee Crash Landing
In a dramatic incident at the Chattanooga Regional Airport, a FedEx plane made a crash landing after its landing gear failed to descend. Miraculously, no one was injured in the incident, according to officials.
The Chattanooga Fire Department received reports of the landing gear failure shortly after takeoff and promptly responded to the scene. The FedEx Boeing 757, carrying three crew members, circled the airport before making its final descent. However, it skidded off the runway and came to a stop in a safety area beyond the runway.
A video captured by Hamilton County EMS shows sparks flying as the plane touches down, but fortunately, there was no fire, only smoke from the engines.
“Great work by the pilot and airport personnel, as well as all responding agencies for their coordinated efforts,” praised the fire department on X, formerly known as Twitter.
A spokesperson from FedEx informed news outlets that the flight from Chattanooga to Memphis encountered an issue immediately after takeoff.
The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into the incident, referring to it as a “gear up landing” at the airport.
Due to the crash landing, the primary runway at Chattanooga Airport has been temporarily closed, potentially affecting flight schedules, according to news reports.
What role do skilled pilots, well-trained crew members, and efficient emergency response teams play in preventing disasters in the aviation industry?
