Feds Arrest Man For Allegedly Attempting To Bring Explosive Device On Plane In Pennsylvania
Federal law enforcement officers arrested a man for trying to transport an explosive device onto an airplane at this week’s federal courthouse. Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley International Airport with a checked luggage
Mark Muffley, 40 years old, was taken into custody by the FBI in Lanford Pennsylvania.
WFMZ-TV reported The device was approximately 3 inches in diameter and wrapped in clear plastic wrap. It was also found to contain powder from commercial-grade fireworks.
The “powder is suspected to be a mixture of flash powder and the dark granulars that are used in commercial grade fireworks,” According to the complaint. “The black powder and flash powder are susceptible to ignite from heat and friction and posed a significant risk to the aircraft and passengers.”
The bag also featured a zipper. “a can of butane, a lighter, a pipe with white powder residue, a wireless drill with cordless batteries, and two GFCI outlets taped together with black tape,” According to the complaint.
After the device was discovered at 11:01 a.m. Monday, the FBI and bomb specialists were dispatched to the scene. The terminal was closed for two hours before officials declared the situation safe.
Muffley was charged for possessing an explosive at an airport, and possessing, trying to place, or attempting put, an explosive or incendiary apparatus on an aircraft.
