Feds Arrest Two Men For Running ‘Illegal Overseas Police Station’ For Communist China In NYC: DOJ

Two New Yorkers were detained by federal law enforcement on Monday on suspicion of operating a socialist China’s’s illegal outside police station there.

According to a statement from the Department of Justice,” Harry” Lu Jianwang, 61, of the Bronx, and” Chen Jinping” ( 59 ), of Manhattan, were both detained for running the Ministry of Public Security’s’s( MPS ) provincial branch, which is governed by the PRC.

After those involved learned that the FBI was looking into their activities, the key police station was shut down by the fall of 2022. It had been open in the springtime.

The two men were accused of” conpiring to act as PRC government agents as well as obstructing justice by destroying evidence of their communications with an MPS official.”

Lu participated in a number of initiatives to support China’s’s restrictive efforts on American soil, according to the DOJ, and had” a historic relationship of trust with PRC law protection.”

  • Lu took part in counterprotests in Washington, D.C., in 2015 while President of the PRC, Xi Jinping, was in the country. against adherents of a church that is prohibited by PRC act. Lu received a plaque from the MPS assistant director in recognition of his play on the PRC government’s’s representative.
  • Lu joined the PRC in 2018 in an effort to persuade a runaway to return there. The victim claimed that she had been constantly persecuted to return to the PRC, including threats of violence made against her and her life there and in the US.
  • In 2022, the MPS Official asked Lu for help in finding a pro-democracy militant living in California. Lu then requested the assistance of another conspirator. Lu afterwards denied having these conversations when the FBI questioned him about them.

Each accused faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison if found guilty of both charges.

According to Assistant Attorney General Matthew G. Olsen of the Justice Department’s’s National Security Division,” The PRC established a covert physical presence in New York City to monitor and intimidate dissidents and those critical of its government.” The PRC’s’s activities are” far beyond what is considered appropriate nation-state run.” We will steadfastly protect everyone’s’s rights in our nation from the threat of autocratic repression.

The FBI Counterintelligence Division’s’s acting assistant manager Kurt Ronnow referred to the covert police station as” only ridiculous.”

The People’s’s Republic of China will stop at nothing to turn men to their will and quiet messages they don’t want anyone to talk, he said, adding that this case serves as a potent reminder of this. The FBI is committed to defending everyone in the country from attempts to restrict our democratic liberties, and we will have any say actors responsible for breaking the law, including those who assist them.
