Feds Seek D.C. Pipe Bomb Suspect After 3 Years
Federal Officials Still Searching for Suspect in Pipe Bomb Investigation
It has been nearly three years since the investigation into a pair of pipe bombs planted outside the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) and Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) offices in Washington, D.C. began, and federal officials are still on the hunt for a suspect.
The FBI recently issued a bulletin, reminding the public that a $500,000 reward is still up for grabs for anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible for the attempted attack. The bureau emphasized that identifying the perpetrator remains a top priority for law enforcement.
Surveillance footage released to the public shows a hooded figure carrying a backpack and appearing to examine a phone. This individual is believed to be the suspect behind the planting of the pipe bombs.

The FBI stressed the seriousness of the situation, highlighting that the suspect walked through residential and commercial areas near the U.S. Capitol with live pipe bombs that could have caused harm to innocent bystanders. The individual may still pose a threat to the public.
The pipe bombs were discovered on January 6, the same day as the U.S. Capitol breach. One of the bombs prompted the evacuation of then-Vice President-elect Kamala Harris from the DNC building.
David Sundberg, assistant director in charge of the FBI Washington Field Office, expressed gratitude for the tips received from the public, which have helped advance the investigation. He urged people to review the Seeking Information webpage, which contains images and videos of the suspect, the suspect’s belongings, the explosive devices, and the route taken by the suspect on the night the bombs were planted.
Republicans in Congress have been pushing for more transparency in the investigation. The FBI has faced challenges, including corrupted phone carrier data, which hindered their progress in the pipe bomb investigation.
FBI Director Christopher Wray, while testifying before the House Judiciary Committee, declined to share specific findings but revealed that the bureau has conducted numerous interviews, reviewed thousands of video files, assessed hundreds of tips, and examined the devices involved.

The pipe bombs were discovered on January 5, 2021, the day before the Capitol riots. They were found outside the RNC and DNC headquarters, raising concerns about potential violence and instability during a time of heightened political tension.
While the pipe bombs did not detonate and no one was injured, the incident still poses a significant threat to national security. The FBI and other law enforcement agencies have been actively investigating the case, but progress has been slow in identifying the suspect.
The release of surveillance footage earlier this month is a significant development in the investigation. The footage shows a hooded figure carrying a backpack and appearing to examine a phone. Investigators are urging the public to carefully review the footage and report any information that could help identify the suspect.
In addition to the surveillance footage, the FBI is also offering a substantial reward of $500,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible for the attempted attack. This reward is an incentive for anyone who may have information about the suspect to come forward and assist in bringing them to justice.
Law enforcement agencies are treating this case as a top priority and are dedicated to resolving it as soon as possible. The pipe bomb incident serves as a reminder of the importance of public cooperation in combating domestic terrorism and protecting our communities.
The FBI’s bulletin is a significant step towards generating public awareness and involvement in the case. It is crucial for individuals to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or persons that they may come across. Public engagement is essential in aiding law enforcement agencies in their pursuit of justice.
As the investigation approaches its three-year mark, it is evident that federal officials are committed to finding the suspect and holding them accountable for their actions. The public’s assistance is instrumental in bringing closure to this case and preventing future acts of violence.
If you have any information related to the pipe bomb investigation, please contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or visit their website at www.fbi.gov. Remember, your tip could make a difference in the pursuit of justice and the safety of our nation.
Together, we can ensure that those responsible for this attempted attack are apprehended and that our democracy remains strong and resilient.
