Oregon boys’ bathroom had a feminine hygiene dispenser found in the toilet as a protest.
Protest in Oregon High School Boys’ Bathroom
Recently, a protest against a new law was staged in the boys’ bathroom of Lakeridge High School in Oregon. The protest involved placing a feminine hygiene dispenser into a toilet stall. This was not the first time such an incident occurred, according to an email sent to parents by the school.
Providing Menstrual Products for All Students
The school has installed sanitary pad and tampon dispensers in all bathrooms, including the boys’ bathrooms, in compliance with Oregon’s Menstrual Dignity Act. This law requires all schools to provide free feminine hygiene products in all bathrooms. The measure affects over 700,000 students statewide.
The school district provides menstrual products for students at no cost, and the recent protests are seen as a form of vandalism. The district has asked for help from parents to stop this behavior.
Proposed Changes to the Law
A new bill, SB246, has been introduced that would remove the requirement for boys’ restrooms and charter schools. This comes as state Rep. Tracy Cramer (R) introduced an amendment to increase the State School Fund to $10.4 billion, while Gov. Tina Kotek’s (D-OR) recommendation was $9.9 billion.
It is important to provide necessary support for students, especially during a time of record inflation and labor shortages across the education field. Let’s work together to ensure all students have access to the resources they need to succeed.
