‘F***ing Backward Story’: Peter Dinklage Slams Disney For Attempting ‘Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs’ Remake
Actor Peter Dinklage is not looking forward to Disney’s “Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs” live-action remake. In fact, he’s feeling downright hostile that the studio decided to take on the project at all.
The “Game of Thrones” alum made his thoughts known on an episode of Marc Maron’s WTF podcast. While Dinklage respected Disney’s decision to cast “West Side Story” alum Rachel Zegler as the lead, he was not pleased about the 1937 film getting made in the first place.
He said:
“Literally no offense to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White — but you’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me. You’re progressive in one way, but then you’re still making that f***ing backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together? What the f*** are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.”
The Emmy Award-winning actor went on to say he would support the remake if it was “progressive.”
“If you tell the story of ‘Snow White’ with the most f***ed up, progressive spin on it? Let’s do it. All in,” Dinklage told Maron.
While the actor only alluded to his issues with the film, it likely has to do with the portrayal of dwarfism. However, The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh pointed out how Dinklage was comfortable making jokes about dwarfism in film not too long ago. The actor played a best-selling children’s author named Miles Finch in the 2003 Christmas classic “Elf.” The entire bit revolved around Will Ferrell’s character Buddy believing Miles Finch is an elf for real.
“Peter Dinklage appeared in the movie Elf for one scene where the whole joke is that Will Ferrell’s character thinks he’s an actual elf. But now he’s concerned that Snow White and the Seven Dwarves is offensive and problematic,” Walsh shared on Twitter. “Just another woke hypocrite.”

Meanwhile, there’s been a lot of speculation about how the classic story of “Snow White” will change in the newest film version. The studio caused quite a stir by casting Tony Award winning actor Andrew Burnap as a male lead in the movie, but confirmed he will not be playing the prince or the huntsman. This surprising addition suggests that Disney is taking liberties with storytelling and changing up the structure of the original story. They’re being intentionally vague about how that will happen, though.
Snow White actress Zegler has also addressed the alleged changes. Though she didn’t reveal details of the story, the “West Side Story” star did admit the script features a “stronger” narrative.
“There’s not much I can say about it besides the fact that Snow White has constantly been criticized — even though she’s the original Disney princess and we love her so much — but criticized for existing solely for a prince, existing solely to be rescued,” Zegler explained.
“I think that our director, Marc Webb, and everyone who’s working on this film has really taken her narrative and turned it into something that’s a lot stronger. And I’m very, very excited to be able to bring that to life.”
