Florida House Democrat Investigated for Alleged Campaign Violations
The House Committee on Ethics Investigates Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick for Campaign Violations
The House Committee on Ethics has launched an investigation into Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) to determine if she violated the law during her 2022 campaigns. Cherfilus-McCormick is facing allegations of campaign finance law violations, failure to disclose information, and a work violation during her special and general election campaigns.
The Ethics committee states that the congresswoman may have violated campaign finance laws, failed to properly disclose required information, and accepted voluntary services for official work from an individual not employed in her congressional office.
The committee unanimously voted to establish a panel to investigate the Florida Democrat. Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) will lead the panel, with Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) serving as the ranking member. Rep. Cliff Bentz (R-OR) and Rep. Troy Carter (D-LA) will also be part of the investigative panel.
The Ethics committee clarifies that the establishment of an Investigative Subcommittee does not automatically indicate any violation has occurred.
Cherfilus-McCormick’s spokesperson, Jonathan Levin, stated that the congresswoman is actively working to resolve the inquiry.

Ultimately, the House Committee on Ethics plays a critical role in safeguarding the integrity of Congress and ensuring that elected officials remain accountable to the American people. The investigation into Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick’s campaign violations will provide an opportunity to assess whether any wrongdoing has occurred and take appropriate measures to uphold ethical standards in our democratic system.
