Florida Rep. Greg Steube Set To Return To Congress After Falling Off His Roof
Republican Florida Greg Steube, Congressman, stated Wednesday that he is now able to return to work after falling from his roof.
Steube made an announcement via Twitter Wednesday afternoon, stating that his doctors had cleared him to fly, and that he would be returning to Washington, D.C., in the latter part of this month. Steube fell 25ft off the Sarasota rooftop in January. Steube is still an active legislator, even though he was confined to his home.
“I’m happy to report my doctor has cleared me to fly,” Steube wrote. “I am looking forward to returning to D.C. later this month!”
Steube received well wishes from several of his colleagues via Twitter.
“Great news! Looking forward to having you back!” Rep. Steube wrote this to Steube’s Florida colleague. Neal Dunn (R-FL).
“Great news! Looking forward to having you back,” Rep. Rich McCormick (R-GA).
“Great news,” Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN).
“Welcome news,” House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) replied. “Can’t wait to have you back!”
Steube fell 25ft from a ladder while performing chores around his home on January 18. According to a Fox News He was cutting branches from a trees when a branch struck his ladder and caused it collapse. Darrell Woodie was the delivery driver and part-time field staffer for Rep. Vern Buchanan who lives in his district, saved him. Woodie claimed that he visited Steube’s home to congratulate him for his win and then saw the fall, so he called 911.
After being hospitalized for four days, Steube spent an overnight in the ICU before returning home on January 21. After four days at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Steube tweeted a photo of himself at home, still wearing a stabilizing brace around his neck, on a couch with his dogs — and he shared how his Recovery Was going.
“I am blessed to have a great support team in my wife Jennifer as well as numerous friends and family, including the Steube pups,” He tweeted the following on January 23. “Grateful for everyone’s prayers and well-wishes as I recover from a fractured pelvis, a punctured lung, and several torn ligaments in my neck.”
“While I will be sidelined in Sarasota for several weeks, I will be carrying out as many of my congressional duties as possible,” He concluded. “And our D.C. and district staff continue to be readily available to assist Floridians in FL-17.”
“I’m eager to rejoin my colleagues in Washington as soon as possible!” He concluded.
Steube also Invited Woodie to be his guest during February’s State of the Union Address. “Mr. Woodie called 911 after witnessing my accident and is the epitome of a Good Samaritan!” He tweeted the picture, as well as a photo of them together.
Steube continues to be active in legislative affairs, even though he is not in his office. Steube was Nominated McCarthy will be serving on the House Select Subcommittee on the WMD of the Federal Government. McCarthy has also introduced many pieces of legislation, including the “Act: Safe Storage Lockers in House Office Buildings“” would require the Capitol Police installation of storage lockers at all pedestrian entries to each House Office Building in order for employees to store weapons for self-defense.
