Florida Starts Taking Steps to Become 26th Constitutional Carry State
(Before we get into firearm safety/trigger discipline, the photo was taken at S&W Firearms Factory. The hands you see are those of the assembler who put the 1911 together. Together.) (There. That should be settled THIS.) (I know you are all amazing.)
The Florida House speaker announced that lawmakers had been elected Today, the bill was filed.
Florida lawmakers’ promise to introduce legislation allowing permitless concealed carry of firearms, called “Constitutional Carry” By proponents, it has been met. House Speaker Paul Renner (R, Palm Coast) announced House Bill 543 at a Monday morning press conference. This bill would allow firearms and weapons to be concealed without the need for a concealment license.
Rep. Chuck Brannan (R – Lake City) drafted the bill, while Jay Collins (R – Tampa) wrote the companion legislation for Florida Senate. Gov. Ron DeSantis declared in December that the legislation was important to him and urged state legislators for it to be passed.
The proposed bill would eliminate the need for Floridians to apply for a concealed carry license. Florida allows firearm purchases for anyone 21 years old and over without the need for a state application. Federal background checks are not required.
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services would cease to regulate concealed carry permits if the bill is passed.
Don’t confuse this with the “open carry” Arizona has passed bills similar to these. This is strictly an advisory. Concealed weapon law…
…The bill’s provisions only allow for concealed carry of a firearm without permit, should it pass. Renner described the new legislation in an age where political division is rampant as being important.
…Provisions of the proposed legislation also would remove the need for citizens to have concealed carry permits, allowing them to have the firearm without having to pay a fee or get a certificate for carrying a firearm.
…and still has plenty of restrictions attached to it. For people like me, who are too lazy to go and get mine (and FL makes that possible) SO easy for veterans), it’s a great start.
Here is the text of the prosed constitutional carry statute.
It’s quite simple. Similar to the current concealed laws you must carry your ID with you when you carry. There is still the moronic gun free zones stuff and such, but it’s an initial step.https://t.co/zOfbhlOhGh pic.twitter.com/ToJtUtcpHQ— Frog Capital (@FrogNews) January 30, 2023

The host of restrictions includes the usual suspects – FELONS, schools, churches, government buildings, etc. – but has an interesting codicil about guests:
…As written, HB 543 does not allow felons or other Floridians who are blocked from possessing a firearm to carry one, or own one. It also permits nonresidents to conceal firearms in the state If they fulfill the same requirements as Florida residents. In some locations, concealed weapons are still restricted.
A friend of mine asked a pertinent question about traveling to CCW states, despite not having to request a permit or pay fees.
We appreciate your understanding. @Paul_Renner — but will there still be a provision to get one if we want, for use in reciprocal carry states?

The answer is yes so far. For that reason, it will continue to be available.
After his inaugural address, Governor Ron DeSantis repeatedly indicated that he was willing to sign a bill if it was sent to him. They seem to have taken him at his word.

JFC, we must not forget that guns are the 2nd leading cause of death for children and teens in FL.
In 2019, guns killed 187 Florida children 0-19 years old.
Gun deaths cost FL taxpayers $875.9 million.
FL already has “Stand Your Ground” What is the purpose of TF? “constitutional carry”? https://t.co/rNYlRJuPsp pic.twitter.com/9ShXMNEViK

Yeah. This statistic is quite remarkable. It is true that every life lost is a loss, but Florida is third in population. Yeah?
What are our current gun violence levels? TWENTY-FIFTH. (And that’s From an anti-gun website.)
I wouldn’t doubt the majority of those “kids” The gang-related shootings that claimed the lives of those who were killed caused them to lose their lives.
The alarming bill HB543 allows permitless carrying and would only increase crime and violence. If this legislation is passed, it would allow anyone to carry guns in their communities without any background check. You can count me in as a no!https://t.co/jjMXtotBL2

“Without any sort of background check!” Like…criminals? Sweet cheeks. They Already have them…
…In statements posted to the organization’s [Giffords Florida] They said it on Twitter “There is NOTHING safe about letting anyone and everyone carry loaded guns in crowded spaces, no questions asked” And that “Permitless carry means more guns in public spaces. It means fistfights would turn into gunfights.”
…and are known for not handling frustration well. Gang encounters can lead to gang fights. These guns are illegal.
Florida requires 1200 hours to get a license to trim hair. There are 500 hours to obtain a certificate as a massage therapist, and 240 hours to become licensed manicurist. Permitless carry means that the state does not require any training to allow you to carry a firearm in public. https://t.co/gtbqgP3bpg

Histrionics. They are also not very knowledgeable about gun owners. People love to shoot their guns after they purchase a firearm. There are always other gun owners and enthusiasts who will help or talk to you about where you shoot when someone buys a gun. It’s this whole community. For example, anytime the husband unit is in Lowe’s wearing the t-shirt of the local firearms store we patronize here, invariably somebody says, “Hey! Love those guys!” Or thumbs up, or, God forbid we’re in line. All of them get into a discussion while we wait.
It’s the rare person who timidly buys a firearm and never once fires it, less mind would then load it and put it in her purse, or in a holster on his hip.
We now wait for the process’s shaking out, the howling and crescendo to end.
Then, I can shop!
I’m delighted they got the ball rolling.
