DeSantis speaks to loyal Trump backers in Florida.
Florida governor Ron DeSantis is back on the campaign trail after his efforts to help his state recover from Hurricane Idalia. In a recent interview with Dave Rubin, DeSantis discussed his differences with former President Trump and had a message for the “Ride-or-Die Trump people.”
“Nobody in the United States–in the Republican Party–has delivered more on America-first policies and principles than me,” he said.
Delivering on Promises
Summarizing his actions as Florida governor, DeSantis highlighted his focus on immigration, China, Second Amendment rights, fighting against corporate Environmental Social Governance (ESG), and the “woke agenda.”
- Banning sanctuary cities
- Banning land purchases by the CCP and its affiliates
- Passing a constitutional carry law
- Fighting against Disney regarding education and protecting profit-first investing
“You want to talk about ‘draining the swamp,” he asked. ”There’s one guy in this entire country that’s ever taken action against (George) Soros-backed prosecutors, and that’s me. And we’ve removed two of them from office in the last year and a half who were not following the law and who were putting their political agenda over public safety.”
Ensuring Election Integrity
DeSantis also emphasized his efforts to ensure election integrity, including replacing election supervisors, banning ballot harvesting, and prosecuting voter fraud through an election crimes task force.
Addressing Attacks
DeSantis addressed the attacks made against him, particularly by former President Trump, regarding Florida’s handling of COVID-19. He dismissed these criticisms as “obviously bogus” and attributed them to Trump’s perception of him as a threat.
“I think some of it’s so ridiculous that I just think people are smart enough to know that it’s a bunch of bull, and I think that they just discount it, and they understand this political silly season,” he said.
However, attacks have not only come from Trump. DeSantis has faced national backlash for his government’s policies, such as banning Critical Race Theory and passing the Parental Rights in Education Bill.
Standing Strong
Despite the criticism, DeSantis remains steadfast in his beliefs. He acknowledges that standing up for what is right comes with a cost.
“At the end of the day, what are we going to do? We’re not going to fight the good fight because we’re worried that someone may say something mean about us,” he asked. “You have moms going to school board meetings. They’re getting attacked by the media. They’re being surveilled by the FBI. So, leadership comes with a cost.”
Trump’s The Media’s Choice
DeSantis also pointed out the alignment between the mainstream media and Trump’s campaign to attack him. He highlighted how Trump’s campaign operatives were wining and dining with journalists from NBC, The New York Times, and The Washington Post.
“All these outlets that he had always, always said were the enemy of the American people. And yet they’re colluding to basically try to put dirt out on me,” the governor said.
DeSantis believes that Trump and the mainstream media developed “a really unhealthy symbiotic relationship.”
