Retired Army General Dana Pittard said former President Barack Obama missed his time to exit Afghanistan. In a recent interview, Pittard added the time to transition out of the embattled country was when Osama Bin Laden was killed back in 2011.

The former Fort Bliss commander went on to say, leaving Afghanistan without a long term strategy was a mistake.

“We’re now going to celebrate or remember 9/11, the 20th anniversary of 9/11. I’m not sure we feel safer for where Afghanistan is today,” he expressed. “Strategically, I would have hoped that the president would have asked his advisers, ‘okay we remove our forces and then what?’ That’s what a strategic leaders asks, and then what? What is the vision for the region? It certainly isn’t a Taliban run country.”

Pittard noted the southern border was unsecured at a time when international terrorism has peaked. He added Biden must secure the border before it’s too late.
