Food stamps: 38 states sending out SNAP benefits worth up to $1,751 this week
Millions of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program beneficiaries in 38 states and Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and Guam will be receiving their July payments this week.
States will load the funds worth up to $1,751 on an Electronic Benefit Transfer card, which functions as a debit card and can be used at any supermarket or grocery store that accepts the benefits. To qualify for SNAP, a household income must be at or below 100% of the federal poverty level. Benefits are distributed over a one-year period.
An individual is eligible to receive a monthly allotment of $291, and a household of eight can receive $1,751.
Over the summer, households with school-aged children are eligible to receive additional funding to account for children missing out on free and reduced lunch programs at schools. Qualifying families will see the additional payments, known as SUN Bucks, in their July balance.
