Food stamps: California SNAP benefits worth up to $1,751 for November to wrap up in three days
California to Conclude Payments for Low-Income Residents in SNAP Program
In just three days, California will complete its distribution of payments to low-income residents participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Known as CalFresh in the Golden State, this federal program began issuing payments on the first of the month and will conclude on November 10th. The distribution of payments is based on the recipient’s case number.
Payment Schedule Based on Case Number
- If a case number ends in 1, recipients can expect their CalFresh benefits on November 1st.
- If a case number ends in 2, SNAP benefits will be available on November 2nd.
- The payment dates continue until November 10th, when those with a case number ending in 0 will receive their payment.
Most California households with a monthly gross income at or below 130% of the federal poverty level will qualify for SNAP. The maximum payment varies depending on the household size, ranging from $291 for a household of one to $1,751 for a household of eight. Additional funds are provided for each member beyond eight.
CalFresh benefits are loaded onto an electronic benefits transfer card each month. Recipients can use this card at grocery stores to purchase eligible products such as fruits, vegetables, bread, meat, poultry, and drinks. However, SNAP benefits cannot be used for items like pet food, alcohol, paper, and soap.
According to 2022 data from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, approximately 13% of California’s population, nearly 5 million individuals, receive SNAP benefits each month.
