Food stamps: Texas SNAP benefits to start in 15 days, offering direct payments up to $1,691.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in Texas
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in Texas is set to issue benefits worth up to $1,691 for the month of August in just 15 days. This is great news for eligible individuals and families living in low-income households.
Those who receive SNAP benefits should expect to see their payments by the middle of August. Texas has a generous window for issuing payments, extending through the first 10 business days of the month.
Payment Amounts and Distribution
The amount of benefits received depends on the size of the household. For example, a single household will receive $281, while a larger eight-member household will receive the maximum amount of $1,691. These figures are according to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission website.
When recipients will receive their payment is determined by the last digit of their Eligibility Determination Group number. Once the funds are deposited, recipients will receive a Lone Star Card, which functions like a credit card and can be used for purchases.
It’s important to note that recipients between the ages of 16 and 59 must also adhere to work rules. This means they must either be employed, actively seeking employment, or participating in an approved work program. Quitting a job without a valid reason is not allowed.
SNAP Benefits and Usage
SNAP benefits can only be used to purchase food and nonalcoholic drinks. These benefits are available in all states, including Washington, D.C., and are loaded onto cards similar to Texas’s Lone Star Card.
