Alabama’s last direct payment for June food stamps, valued at a maximum of $1,691, will be distributed today.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program: Providing Food Assistance to Alabama Residents

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), a federal program aimed at supporting low-income individuals and families, is set to distribute final payments for the month of June to Alabama residents this Friday.

Formerly known as food stamps, Alabama beneficiaries have already received their monthly payments from June 4 through June 23.

Payment Details

• The average payment per household member is $183.
• The maximum payment for a household of one is $281.
• A household of eight can receive a maximum allotment of $1,691.

These figures have been provided by the state’s Children and Family Services department. It’s worth noting that Alabama received $2.16 billion in 2022 for SNAP participants, which includes temporary COVID-19 relief from 2020 through 2022.

According to The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, 761,100 Alabama residents, accounting for 15% of the state’s population, participated in SNAP in 2022. Nationally, 12% of the total United States population participated in SNAP. On average, SNAP households across the country received around $240 a month in 2019 and 2020.

If you are eligible for SNAP benefits, the monthly amount should be available for use through the Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. This card functions similarly to a debit card and can be swiped at grocery store checkouts.

Alabama beneficiaries can conveniently check the status of their SNAP benefits, the next available benefit date, recent transaction history, and other additional information through the MyDHR portal.
