Louisiana’s last direct payment for June food stamps, worth up to $1,691, is distributed today.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program: Providing Food Assistance to Louisiana Residents

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is the largest food assistance initiative in the country, and it is making a difference in the lives of Louisiana residents. On Friday, the final payments for the month of June will be sent out to beneficiaries in the state.

From June 1 to June 23, Louisiana beneficiaries have already received their monthly payments. The amount varies depending on household size and income, with the median payment per household member being $192. For a household of one, the maximum payment is $281, while a household of eight can receive up to $1,691, according to the state’s Children and Family Services department.

SNAP: Helping Louisiana Residents Put Food on the Table

In 2022, a staggering 822,600 Louisiana residents, which accounts for 18% of the state’s population, benefited from SNAP. Nationally, 12% of the total United States population participates in this program. On average, SNAP households received around $240 a month in 2019 and 2020.

If you are eligible for SNAP benefits, you can access your monthly amount through an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. This card functions like a debit card and can be used at grocery stores during checkout.

For Louisiana beneficiaries, the LifeInCheck portal provides a convenient way to check the status of SNAP benefits, find out the next available benefit date, review recent transaction history, and access additional information. The Department of Children and Family Services and the helpline 1-888-LAHELP-U are also valuable resources for SNAP and other services.

SNAP benefits are issued across all 50 states and the District of Columbia, with payment amounts varying based on factors such as household income and size. To learn more about eligibility and how to apply, contact your local state SNAP office.

The current payment schedule and allotments for SNAP benefits took effect on October 1 and will continue until September 30.
