Maryland to Send Final Payment to ‍SNAP Recipients

In just five ⁢days, Maryland will be ‌sending ‌its final ⁢payment worth up to⁣ $1,691 to Supplemental⁢ Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) ⁢recipients for ⁣the‍ month of‌ July. This is exciting⁤ news for the approximately ‍772,700 people‌ in Maryland who rely on SNAP benefits, ⁤also‍ known as food stamps.

The distribution of food stamps in Maryland ⁢takes place from the⁢ fourth to ⁢the 23rd of every month, following the‍ state’s benefits schedule. It’s important to note that SNAP benefits can⁢ be ‍used not only⁤ for⁣ purchasing food but also for ⁤buying plants and seeds ⁢to grow food⁤ for households to eat.

Each⁣ household member receives an ‌average payment ‍of⁢ $180 per month, with the maximum amount ⁣being ‍$740⁢ for a household⁢ of three ‌and $1,691 for a household of ‍eight.‍ For each additional member ‍beyond eight, an‌ extra $211 ⁣is added to the benefit amount.

Recipients receive their⁣ benefits through⁤ an electronic benefit transfer card called ‌the Independence ‍Card. This card allows ‌them ⁤to purchase ⁤eligible items at stores, ‍excluding nonfood items, alcohol, medicines, tobacco, and‌ ready-to-eat ⁢hot foods.

The availability of ⁤food stamps on the Independence Card depends on the first three letters of ‌the‌ recipient’s ⁢last name, ⁤falling between the fourth and the ‍23rd‍ of the month.

Income ⁢Eligibility and Usage Restrictions

To be eligible ‌for ⁢SNAP benefits in Maryland, the maximum annual income varies based‌ on household size.‍ For a‍ household of⁤ one, the ⁢maximum annual income is $18,954,⁢ while for a‍ household ⁣of five,⁢ it is ‌$45,682.

It’s⁣ important ‍to ‌remember ‌that SNAP benefits can only be used ⁢for groceries and ⁤cannot be used for owed food ⁣bills or items that‍ cannot be consumed.

With the final payment for ⁤July just around the⁤ corner, SNAP recipients‍ in‍ Maryland can look ⁢forward to continued support ‌in ⁣meeting their nutritional needs.
