Low-income Washington state households to receive SNAP payments in four days
Good news for low-income households in Washington state! If you are receiving financial assistance from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), you can expect your payments to arrive in just four days.
The state of Washington issues benefits to eligible residents between August 1 and 20 every month. Known as the Basic Food program in the Evergreen State, SNAP payments are sent out based on the date recipients applied for benefits. If your household qualifies for SNAP, you will find the specific dates listed on your approval letter.
Qualifications and payment amounts
To qualify for SNAP in Washington, residents must meet certain income and household requirements. The maximum benefit amount varies depending on the size of the household:
- Household of one: Up to $281
- Household of three: Up to $740
- Household of five: Up to $1,116
On average, each household member receives $168 per month, with larger households potentially receiving an additional $211 per person.
Income limits are also in place to determine eligibility. Gross monthly income must generally be at or below 130% of the federal poverty line:
- Household of one: $1,945 per month
- Household of three: $3,299 per month
- Household of five: $4,652 per month
SNAP benefits are distributed through an electronic benefits transfer (EBT) card, which can be used at participating grocery and convenience stores. With your SNAP EBT card, you can purchase a variety of eligible groceries, including meat, poultry, fish products, dairy items, breads, and cereals.
According to data from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, approximately 18% of the population in Washington state, equivalent to 310,900 people, receive food stamps.
