Food Stamp Benefits in Virginia
Exciting news for individuals receiving assistance through the food stamps program in Virginia! Your monthly benefits for August will be available in just six days.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in Virginia ensures that eligible individuals receive the support they need to purchase food. From the 1st through the 7th of every month, the program loads benefits onto Virginia EBT cards. This means that the first round of benefits for August will be delivered on Aug. 1.
Who Qualifies for SNAP Benefits?
Currently, approximately 794,600 people in Virginia, which accounts for about 9% of the state’s population, are receiving assistance through SNAP. The average benefit amount per household member is $181.
SNAP benefits can be used in eligible stores to purchase a variety of food items, including seeds and food-producing plants. However, it’s important to note that nonfood items, alcohol, tobacco, medicines, gardening items, cleaning or paper products, pet food, and prepared hot foods are not eligible for the food stamps program.
When Will You Receive Your Benefits?
The distribution of SNAP benefits in Virginia is based on your case number. If your case number ends in 0-3, you can expect to receive your benefits on Aug. 1. For those with case numbers ending in 4-5, benefits will be available on Aug. 4. And if your case number ends in 6-9, you’ll receive your benefits on Aug. 7.
It’s important to be aware of the income limits for SNAP eligibility. For a household of one, the maximum monthly income to qualify for food stamps is $2,265. However, for a household of five, the maximum monthly income to be eligible for SNAP is $5,412.
