SNAP benefits: Accepted locations for food stamps.

Get the Most Out of Your SNAP Benefits

Did you know that you can use your Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits at most grocery stores, including major chains like Amazon? It’s true! With the SNAP Retailer Locator, you can easily find a store that accepts your benefits, such as Giant and Safeway.

Shop Online and In-Person

Some stores, like Amazon, Aldi via Instacart, and certain Safeway locations in Washington, D.C., even allow you to order food items online and have them delivered to your doorstep. Just keep in mind that SNAP benefits cannot be used for delivery charges. Other outlets, like Safeway, let you reserve food items online and pay for them in person using your EBT card.

What You Can Buy with SNAP Benefits

With your SNAP electronic benefits transfer (EBT) card, you can purchase a variety of food items, including:

  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Meat and dairy products
  • Bread and cereals
  • Seeds and plants used to produce food
  • Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages

However, there are some items that you cannot purchase with SNAP benefits, such as:

  • Alcoholic drinks
  • Cigarettes and tobacco
  • Vitamins and supplements
  • Prepared or hot foods
  • Live animals (except for shellfish)

How Much You Can Receive

The amount of money you receive in SNAP benefits each month depends on the size of your household. For example, a household of one can receive up to $281, while a household of eight can receive up to $1,691. These benefits are typically distributed within the first 10 days of the month.

Changes to SNAP Eligibility

It’s important to note that recent changes to SNAP eligibility may affect you. The debt ceiling deal passed by Congress includes modifications such as increasing the age for work requirements from 18-50 to 18-54 for able-bodied adults. This change could potentially reduce the number of food stamp recipients. On average, recipients receive around $169 in monthly benefits, according to the Department of Agriculture.

Don’t miss out on the benefits you’re entitled to! Use the SNAP Retailer Locator to find a store near you and start shopping today.
