Former Alabama Football Player Ahmaad Galloway Dies Suddenly at 42
Ahmaad Galway, a former University of Alabama running back, died suddenly at his home on Monday. He was just 42 years old.
Galloway was an English teacher at Compton-Drew Middle School, St. Louis, Missouri. However, he didn’t show up to work Monday morning, causing concern among his coworkers as well as school administrators. Concerned by his unusual absence, school officials called police to conduct a welfare check.
Later, the former football star became a successful businessman. found dead in his apartment, NBC’s WVTM-TV reported.
It is still unknown what caused the death.
“Ahmaad was always on time, very responsible. So, we knew something might be wrong,” Susan Reid, school principal, stated. “There wasn’t anything disrupted at Ahmaad’s apartment, so we are thinking that it could have been a medical issue.”
Galloway was a standout for the Crimson Tide. Over his four-year tenure, he gained 1,830 yards with 17 touchdowns. Galloway rushed for 881 yard on 174 runs with six touchdowns for Alabama in 2021. He was an easy pick for pro football and was drafted by the Denver Broncos into the NFL in the seventh round.
Galloway was injured very early in his first season and had to sit out the rest of it. Galloway then moved on to play for several other teams, as well as NFL Europe. His NFL career ended after just a few seasons.
In 2010, the former player became a high school coach and received his teaching certificate.
WVTM stated that his school had closed his classroom in respect, and that his students are stunned by the news.
