Ex-Anheuser Busch exec urges ‘incompetent’ CEO to resign.

The Former President of Anheuser Busch Sales & Distribution Co. Calls for CEO’s Resignation

In a scathing op-ed published on Saturday, Anson Frericks, the former President of Anheuser Busch Sales & Distribution Co., publicly criticized current CEO Brendan Whitworth and demanded his resignation. Frericks, who was personally promoted twice by Whitworth, expressed his disappointment in the CEO’s handling of the Dylan Mulvaney controversy.

Months ago, Anheuser Busch sent a personalized can to transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, resulting in two viral social media posts. However, a subsequent boycott led to a significant dip in sales, costing the company $20 million in market cap value, according to Frericks.

“Whitworth has clearly shown himself to be incapable of solving the Mulvaney crisis,”

Frericks wrote in the Daily Mail. “It’s time he did the right thing and stepped aside to make way for someone capable of righting the sinking Bud Light ship.”

Frericks pointed out that Mulvaney recently addressed Bud Light in an Instagram post, claiming that the influencer had waited for the brand to reach out, but they never did. Frericks saw this as a clear indication that Mulvaney had cut ties with Anheuser Busch, and he believed Whitworth should have been the first to sever their connection.

Anheuser Busch released a statement on Friday, stating, “As we move forward, we will focus on what we do best – brewing great beer for everyone and earning our place in moments that matter to our consumers.” Frericks dismissed this statement as “weak and indecisive,” claiming it meant absolutely nothing.

Whitworth has announced plans for a “listening tour” to gather criticism from the brand’s customer base. Meanwhile, Bud Light attempted to recover before the July Fourth weekend with a summer ad campaign featuring actors enjoying Bud Light in various outdoor scenarios, emphasizing its ease of consumption and enjoyment.
