Former Democratic adviser laments ‘weak and wimpy’ party
Former Democratic strategist Dan Turrentine criticized the current leadership of the Democratic Party during a recent appearance on Fox News, describing it as “weak and wimpy.” He argued that the party is not effectively addressing crucial issues such as the economy, instead focusing on less relevant topics, like immigration cases. Turrentine highlighted a lack of strategic planning from leaders compared to the past, pointing out that former house Speaker Nancy Pelosi had developed clear plans well in advance. He expressed concern that Democratic leaders frequently enough seem hesitant to take decisive action, contrasting this with the more combative style of former President Trump. His remarks come at a time when the party’s approval ratings have reached a historic low, further emphasizing his call for revitalized leadership and strategy within the Democratic Party.
Former Democratic adviser laments ‘weak and wimpy’ party
Democratic strategist Dan Turrentine said the party’s leadership is holding its movement back.
Turrentine, a co-host of The Morning Meeting on 2Way, lamented that “rather than talking about the economy, we’re talking about Mr. Garcia,” in reference to Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a recently deported illegal immigrant from El Salvador. He called for further strategy, insisting that under former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), there were plans “weeks, months” in advance, but now “we don’t have leadership.”
“Look, right now we have two problems with our leadership: One, they are weak and wimpy,” Turrentine said Monday on Fox News’s Jesse Watters Primetime. “Say what you want about Trump, it is a fight, fight, fight. Our leaders are often telling you why you can’t do something. Second, when we do take action, it’s shoot first and then what’s the strategy?”
According to Turrentine, in 2006, Democrats, including then-Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) and now-Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), developed a six-policy plank for candidates to use. At the time, it had nothing to do with the leaders of the opposition party, but lately, everything the Democratic lawmakers do is simply anti-Trump.
In March, the Democratic Party garnered a 29% approval rating in a CNN poll. That was a record low for the network’s polling, dating back to the beginning of its pollster days.
