Former Mets Pitching Prospect Matt Pobereyko Dead at 31 From Heart Attack
Former New York Mets Matt Pobereyko was a pitching prospect who died unexpectedly on Friday from a heart attack. He had most recently been in Mexico as a player. He was 31 years old.
Hector Gomez, an MLB insider first reported Pobereyko’s death. However several of his former teams confirmed his death.

“Words cannot express the grief and sorrow we feel today for Matt’s family, friends, teammates and his fans,” Steve Montgomery is the Explorers manager.
“He truly loved being an Explorer and being a part of this community. He was as fierce of a friend as he was as a competitor. We will miss him as a baseball player, but even more so as a friend.”

Pobereyko was born in Hammond, Indiana on Christmas Eve. He played college baseball at Kentucky Wesleyan College and signed a minor league contract. Arizona Diamondbacks In 2016.
He was a right-handed pitcher who joined the Mets in 2017. He also spent many seasons in the minors. He also spent time at the Miami Marlins organization.

According to the report Pobereyko most recently pitched in the Dominican Winter League as well as the Mexican League.
