Former NASCAR Driver Clint Bowyer Involved in Pedestrian Death on Missouri Highway
Police documents show that former NASCAR driver and Fox Sports NASCAR commentator Clint Bowyer was involved in the death of a female pedestrian as the result of a tragic car crash earlier in June.
Former NASCAR Driver Involved in Deadly Pedestrian Accident
TMZ Sports, who obtained the documents, reported “the 43-year-old ex-racecar driver said he [Clint Bowyer] was traveling in a 2019 Nissan Rogue when he hit a pedestrian in the middle of the street.” The crash happened near Osage Beach, MO, on June 5 according to the Lake Ozark Police Department.
Bowyer was traveling home from commentating for the NASCAR Cup Series that day in Madison, IL, when he struck the woman who was in the middle of the road around 9pm. Bowyer stopped after realizing what had happened and pulled over to call 911.
EMTs who arrived at the scene of the crash declared the victim, 47-year-old Mary Jane Simmons, dead after attempts to save her life were made.
The police conducted several tests to determine whether Bowyer was impaired at the time of the incident from drugs or alcohol, with the results showing he tested negative for both substances while driving.
Female Pedestrian Hit by Clint Bowyer Possessed ‘Crystalline Substance’
Reports do show however that the deceased woman potentially had a “crystalline substance… believed to be methamphetamine” in her possession.
Neighbors of the victim in Camdenton, MO, where she had lived, spoke with authorities and indicated they were suspicious that she may have been under the “influence of drugs.”

Bowyer released a statement Thursday afternoon, stating that “Anyone that knows me, knows that family is everything to me. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Ms. Simmons.”
“This is a very difficult time for my family and I, please respect our privacy as we move forward,” the statement concluded.
Fox Sports released a brief statement following the news of Clint Bowyer’s accident saying, “We are deeply saddened by the news of this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families.”
