Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan Arrested on Corruption Charges
On Tuesday, former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested in Islamabad by paramilitary troops on corruption charges. Khan had tweeted earlier that day that officials were trying to arrest him to prevent him from campaigning for reelection and mobilizing the masses for a street movement in support of the Constitution. The charges were brought against Khan by Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau, the country’s anti-corruption agency.
Khan’s ousting from his role as prime minister in April 2022 has not stopped him from fighting for his beliefs. However, officials are trying to silence him. Khan believes that the government officials refuse to obey the country’s Supreme Court, which ordered elections to be held in two provinces later this month.
