Exciting news from the political landscape of New Hampshire! Former Republican Senator Kelly Ayotte has officially declared her candidacy for the governor’s mansion in the upcoming 2024 election. Ayotte, at the age of 55, took to Twitter to share her motivation behind running for governor: “I am running for Governor because I fear that we are one election away from turning into Massachusetts. Together, we will ensure that we keep New Hampshire safe, prosperous, and free.”
Ayotte previously served as a senator for New Hampshire from 2011 to 2017, until she lost her bid for reelection to Senator Maggie Hassan. Joining Ayotte in the race for governor is former state Senate President Chuck Morse, also representing the Republican party. On the Democratic side, we have Joyce Craig, the mayor of Manchester, and Executive Councilor Cinde Warmington, who have both thrown their hats into the ring.
In her announcement, Ayotte proudly shared a list of notable endorsements, including former New Hampshire Sen. Judd Gregg, former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown, former New Hampshire Gov. Craig Benson, New Hampshire House Majority Leader Jason Osborne, and Rochester Mayor Paul Callaghan.
New Hampshire’s political landscape is heating up, with the Cook Political Report rating the state as a “toss-up.” Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting race!
