Will Hurd, ex-Texas Rep., announces 2024 GOP presidential bid.

Former Texas Rep. Will Hurd Announces Presidential Run

Former Texas Rep. Will Hurd, known for his criticism of former President Donald Trump, has made an exciting announcement. He declared his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election as a Republican, joining an already crowded field dominated by Trump.

Hurd, a former CIA officer, represented Texas’ 23rd Congressional District, which covers a massive area along the Texas-Mexico border. In a campaign video released on June 22, Hurd emphasized the urgent need for “common-sense leadership” to protect the soul of the country.

He highlighted the challenges America faces, including illegal immigration, the influx of fentanyl, inflation, rising crime and homelessness, and the lack of action from liberals. Hurd firmly stated that President Biden and a lawless, failed politician like Trump cannot solve these problems.

Before entering politics, Hurd served as a clandestine officer in Pakistan and is fluent in Urdu. In 2020, he chose not to seek reelection, focusing instead on addressing the intersection of technology and national security. Hurd’s experiences have shaped his belief that this election is crucial for the future of the United States.

In an interview with “CBS Mornings,” Hurd explained that he and his wife made the decision to run for president because they believe common sense is needed in these complicated times. He highlighted generational defining challenges, such as China’s rise, persistent inflation, and declining education standards.

A Crowded Field of Republican Contenders

Will Hurd joins a diverse group of Republican presidential contenders, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, anti-woke activist and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, radio host Larry Elder, and Miami Mayor Francis Suarez.

While most GOP candidates are focusing their campaigns on criticizing President Biden, Trump remains the most popular candidate among Republican voters. Hurd, Christie, and Hutchinson have all been vocal about their disagreements with Trump and his influence on the Republican Party.

It will be interesting to see how Hurd’s entry into the race shapes the dynamics of the Republican primary.
