Glen Sturtevant set to beat Amanda Chase in GOP primary.

Former Virginia State Senator Glen Sturtevant Emerges Victorious in GOP Primary

In an exciting turn of events, former Virginia state Senator Glen Sturtevant has emerged as the projected winner in the GOP Virginia state senate primary for the District 12 seat. The race, which took place on June 20, saw Sturtevant narrowly defeating incumbent state Senator Amanda Chase and challenger Tina Ramirez.

The Associated Press declared Sturtevant as the winner at approximately 8:55 p.m. ET.

According to the state Department of Elections, Sturtevant secured 8,493 votes, accounting for 39.5 percent of the total ballots cast. Chase received 8,153 votes, or 37.9 percent, while Ramirez garnered 4,874 votes, equivalent to 22.6 percent.

It is important to note that provisional ballots and those mailed in prior to the election but are yet to be delivered have not been fully counted. The final results will be determined once they have been certified by the State Board of Elections.

The 12th Senate District, which encompasses Chesterfield County and parts of Colonial Heights, will now be represented by Sturtevant.

Sturtevant’s Journey and Future Prospects

Glen Sturtevant, a practicing attorney, previously served in the Virginia Senate from 2015 to 2020. He represented the 10th District until his defeat in the 2019 reelection bid against Democrat Ghazala Hashmi.

Looking ahead, Sturtevant is expected to be the favored candidate in the general election on November 7, where he will face off against Democrat Natan McKenzie.

Throughout his campaign, Sturtevant placed significant emphasis on key issues such as gun rights, opposition to abortion, and increased support for law enforcement.

Senate Censure and Chase’s Stance

Reflecting on the victory, Sturtevant expressed the importance of Republican unity in reclaiming the State Senate and maintaining control of the House of Delegates. He stated, “It’s going to take all of us as Republicans working together to win back the State Senate, to hold the House of Delegates, and work together with Governor [Glenn] Youngkin to get the Commonwealth on a common sense path again,” in an interview with WTVR CBS 6 News, Richmond.

As of now, Sturtevant has not publicly commented on the election results.

Meanwhile, Amanda Chase has served in the Senate since 2016. However, she faced censure by the Virginia Senate in 2021 due to alleged “unacceptable conduct,” including her comments in support of Ashli Babbitt, a 35-year-old Air Force veteran who was fatally shot by U.S. Capitol Police during the January 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol. Chase also expressed support for others who lost their lives that day, including law enforcement officials.

Chase’s campaign focused on key issues such as securing the southern border, supporting parental rights, opposing abortion, providing additional healthcare to veterans, and protecting Second Amendment rights. She also criticized Sturtevant’s past liberal voting record on various issues.
