Four deputies to embattled NYC Mayor Eric Adams resign
Four senior deputies to New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced their resignations on Monday after the Justice Department moved to dismiss his corruption case.
The four deputies were First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer, Deputy Mayor for Operations Meera Joshi, Deputy Mayor for Health Human Services Anne Williams-Isom, and Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Chauncey Parker.
“I am disappointed to see them go, but given the current challenges, I understand their decision and wish them nothing but success in the future,” Adams said in a statement.
The move comes days after the Justice Department filed a motion to dismiss its case against the 64-year-old mayor, drawing controversy and caused several prosecutors and officials to leave their jobs instead of complying with the order from Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove to drop the charges.

Torres-Springer, Williams-Isom, and Joshi released a joint statement thanking Adams for the opportunity of serving.
“Due to the extraordinary events of the last few weeks and to stay faithful to the oaths we swore to New Yorkers and our families, we have come to the difficult decision to step down from our roles,” they said.
The Southern District of New York indicted Adams last year on allegations that he accepted illegal campaign donations and luxury international travel from a Turkish government official and from foreign business people.
Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Danielle Sassoon was one of those who resigned. She alleged that Adams’s attorneys had proposed a “quid-pro-quo” scenario regarding Adams’s immigration enforcement policy. Adams’s attorney has denied the claim.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is also facing calls to use her legal authority to remove Adams from office, although has thus far not done so.
