Four Key Takeaways from GOP Report on Hunter Biden Investigation

Hunter Biden investigation: Four key takeaways from new GOP report into family’s ‘influence peddling’ House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) presented evidence alleging the Biden family had business dealings in Romania and China.

At a press conference Wednesday, Comer alleged, through records the committee had subpoenaed, that “the Biden family, their business associates, and their companies received over $10 million” from companies belonging to foreign nationals. Here are four of the takeaways from the newly presented evidence.

NANCY MACE DEMANDS DOJ INVESTIGATE BIDEN FAMILY OVER ‘INFLUENCE’ CLAIMS

New country implicated in the $10 million payments

Romania and China are the countries implicated in the records unveiled by the House Oversight Committee.

Alleged payments stemming from Chinese business officials to members of the Biden family had previously been uncovered by the committee, but Romania is a new factor in the investigation.

In the memo, Comer says the Romanian-related payments “show evidence of influence peddling and a correlation between the Biden family and their business associates’ work and then-Vice President Biden’s responsibilities while in office.”

No “smoking gun” connecting Joe Biden, but suspicions continue

There was no “smoking gun” directly connecting President Joe Biden to the foreign payments, but suspicions among the GOP House members continue. The memo does mention that the period when these payments were made to the various Biden family members includes the end of Joe Biden’s term as vice president, but also extends past his time in office.

“The Bidens intentionally sought to hide, confuse, and conceal their influence-peddling schemes, but bank records don’t lie. The Bidens made millions from foreign nationals providing what seems to be no services other than access and influence,” Comer said. “From the thousands of records we’ve obtained so far, we know the Biden family set up over a dozen companies when Joe Biden was vice president. The Bidens engaged in many intentionally complicated financial transactions to hide these payments and avoid scrutiny. In at least one instance, the Bidens’ CCP-linked associates took steps to conceal the source of the payment to the Bidens.”

Biden family members involved have been identified

Comer’s memo released on Wednesday names the nine members of the Biden family who he believes are implicated in the various payments.

The memo names Hunter Biden, James Biden, James Biden’s wife Sara, Beau Biden’s widow and Hunter Biden’s ex-girlfriend Hallie Biden, Hunter Biden’s ex-wife Kathleen Buhle, Hunter Biden’s wife Melissa Cohen, and three children of Joe Biden and/or of James Biden. Per Comer’s memo, all of those individuals received payments from foreign entities.

GOP demands Justice Department take action

During the press conference, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) said that the Department of Justice needs to “get off its a**” and investigate the evidence they have laid out.

“The DOJ needs to get off its a** and investigate,” Mace said. “We’ve done the work for them so that they can’t screw it up now.”

“If these allegations, any of these allegations, are proven true, then someone with the last name Biden needs to be charged, prosecuted, and maybe spend a little bit of time in prison to take to account and responsible for the actions they’ve taken today,” Mace continued.

The House Oversight Committee has been investigating the Biden family since the GOP took control of the House in January. Hunter Biden has been under investigation by the Justice Department since 2018, with reports suggesting charges could be levied soon.
