Fox Gives Greenlight To Female-Led, Modern “Reimagining” Of “Starsky & Hutch”
The classic TV series of buddy cops is the latest victim in Hollywood’s spiral towards lazy unoriginality. Starsky & Hutch is the next classic IP set to receive the ‘modern reimagining’ treatment.
First published by The Hollywood Reporter A February 16th exclusive revealed that Elizabeth Peterson and Sam Sklaver are currently working on a revival of the 1970s Detective Duo. Elizabeth Peterson is best known as the showrunner and the co-executive producer at Fox. Prodigal Son.
Fox Entertainment president Michale Thon said that the two will deliver at most two scripts. The studio will then make the final decision about whether to order the reboot.
Fox and The Hollywood Reporter have provided a summary of each series. “The modern ‘reimagining’ of Starsky & Hutch will center on two female detectives, Sasha Starsky and Nicole Hutchinson. They solve crimes in the offbeat town of Desert City while staying true to their friendship, their awesomeness, and somehow also trying to unravel the mystery behind who sent their fathers to prison 15 years ago for a crime they didn’t commit.”
As of writing, neither Fox nor co-production studio Sony Pictures Television – whose Columbia Pictures TV produced the original 1970s outing – have given any hints as to which actresses, if any, are currently on their radars for the lead roles.
Sasha and Nicole may also be full on gender-swaps of David and Kenneth original protagonists, or are some other way related. It is not yet known if the women will navigate Desert City while driving the Gran Torino of the duo.
Notably, if the series does ever become a reality, it will be the second time that the detective duo will have been revived after their four-year run on ABC.
Many people may be familiar with the fact that Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller were able to step into the shoes of Owen Wilson. Starsky & HutchThey walked the duo onto silver screen in 2004.
