Fox News dominates ratings with near decade-best cable news viewership

Fox News notched the top viewership spot among cable networks in the fourth quarter of 2024, making it cable’s most-watched network for nine years straight.

The network saw double-digit gains in its prime time and total day viewers compared to the year prior, including the key 25-54 age demographic, according to Nielsen data shared with the Washington Examiner.

Fox News also held 55% of the cable news prime-time audience and 53% of total day viewership, notching its highest share of the audience since 2015.

Leading all late-night talk shows, Gutfeld! averaged 2.1 million viewers overall. It also drew an average of 295,000 viewers in the 25-54 age demographic, which topped all cable news programs.

“Throughout coverage of a tumultuous political cycle, wars in the Middle East and major breaking news events, millions of viewers across the political spectrum continued to tune into Fox News Channel for our unrivaled reporting and analysis,” News Media CEO Suzanne Scott said in a statement. “I am extremely proud of our entire team for proving once again why we are the nation’s most-watched network as we outpaced the competition in covering the stories that mattered most to everyday Americans.”

The Five was the No. 1 cable news program among all viewers and became the first non-prime time program to draw more than 4 million viewers in the fourth quarter.

Gutfeld!’s fourth-quarter viewership was the most-watched among the key 25-54 age demographic.

Meanwhile, Jesse Watters Primetime also earned the top viewership among the 18-49-year-old demographic. 

When comparing Fox’s fourth quarter viewership to other cable news networks, it drew 73% of the cable news audience in prime time, while MSNBC saw a 61% decline at 54,000 viewers in the key 25-54-year-old demographic. 

Similarly, CNN lost 52% of its key prime-time demographic with an average of 75,000 viewers.
