From Trump to Tyson: The 10 most-searched people on Google in 2024

In a year that saw multiple unsuccessful attempts to take him down both literally and figuratively, President-elect Donald Trump racked up another victory. Google announced Trump was the most searched person of the year, according to new statistics from the company.

While many were scouring the internet for information on Trump and the presidential election overall, there were a number of other notable names people wanted to learn more about.

Here are the top 10 most Googled people across the world this year.

1. Donald Trump

Trump achieved in 2024 what no U.S. president has achieved since former President Grover Cleveland: winning a presidential election after losing reelection for a second presidential term. Trump squared off against Vice President Kamala Harris on Nov. 5 and became the first Republican candidate since 2004 to win both the Electoral College and the popular vote.

Trump’s campaign for president also featured a myriad of photos showing the president-elect’s photogenicity, including his near-death experience at a Pennsylvania rally, working the drive-thru at a McDonald’s, and arm wrestling with wrestling icon Hulk Hogan.

“There’s never been anything like this in this country, and maybe beyond, and now it’s going to reach a new level of importance because we’re going to help our country heal — help our country heal,” Trump stated in his victory speech.

Kate made headlines in March when she said in a video she had been undergoing cancer treatment, stressing that she was recovering and would be “OK.” Six months later, she was spotted publicly for the first time since the viral video, attending church with her husband, Prince William, along with King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

In a video announcing her progress, she said her steps to full recovery would be taken on a day-to-day basis, and she would only partake in limited engagements through the end of the year.

3. Kamala Harris

While Harris was unsuccessful in her bid for the presidency this year, she did make it into Google’s top three most searched people. In conceding the 2024 election, Harris expressed thanks to her supporters for voting for her and stressed the need for them to take action following Trump’s victory.

“This is not a time to throw up our hands,” Harris said. “This is a time to roll up our sleeves. This is a time to organize, to mobilize, and to stay engaged for the sake of freedom and justice and the future that we all know we can build together.”

4. Imane Khelif

Khelif, an Olympic boxer from Algeria, won gold at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris after controversy over her defeat of Italian boxer Angela Carini, which she accomplished in 46 seconds. Khelif has a reported diagnosis of differences in sexual development, or DSD, which is an umbrella term for a variety of conditions in which a person can have either XY or XX chromosomes but not the corresponding physical sex characteristics.

Khelif’s participation in boxing against other women raised pushback on social media, with Outkick and female sports activist Riley Gaines condemning the Olympics for “glorified male violence against women.”

Following the Olympics, Khelif’s attorney, Nabil Boudi, filed a lawsuit listing X owner Elon Musk and Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling in a harassment lawsuit, as both said Khelif was a man partaking in a female sport.

5. Joe Biden

The 46th U.S. president’s biggest moment of 2024 was arguably when he announced he was dropping his reelection bid, choosing to endorse Harris as the Democratic nominee instead. His announcement came after many were critical of the president’s performance during the first presidential debate on June 27.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president,” Biden wrote in a letter on July 21 announcing his decision to bow out. “While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”

6. Mike Tyson

One of the most viral sporting events of the year was a matchup between boxing legend Mike Tyson and social media influencer-turned-boxer Jake Paul, which had 108 million people stream the event live on Netflix. The fight was held in Arlington, Texas, at the AT&T Stadium on Nov. 15, where 72,300 people watched the event in person.

While Paul was ultimately the champion of the fight, Tyson indicated he might still have more left in him in the world of boxing, saying he does not believe this was his last boxing match. When asked who he’d like to fight next, Tyson suggested Paul’s brother, Logan Paul, who is a professional wrestler and former social media star.

7. JD Vance

While the vice president-elect made headlines in 2022 when he won the Ohio Senate race, it was not until 2024 that the spotlight truly shined on him. Days after Trump survived his first assassination attempt, the former president announced that Vance would serve as his running mate, saying he would fight for voters across the country and citing his “very successful business career.”

Vance was picked as Trump’s vice presidential candidate just before his 40th birthday, making him the youngest vice president-elect since former President Dwight D. Eisenhower picked Richard Nixon in 1952.

“THANK YOU!” Vance wrote on X following the election. “To my beautiful wife for making it possible to do this. To President Donald J. Trump, for giving me such an opportunity to serve our country at this level. And to the American people, for their trust. I will never stop fighting for ALL of you.”

8. Lamine Yamal

By far the youngest person among Google’s top searched people, 17-year-old Yamal made sports history this year by becoming the youngest player to ever partake in the UEFA European Football Championship. Yamal played for FC Barcelona and Spain, helping his country win the championship against England in July.

Spain‘s victory in the championship marked its fourth win in the tournament’s history since it began in 1960, giving it the most wins out of any country that has participated. Germany is the runner-up with three wins.

9. Simone Biles

The Olympic athlete made the news in 2021 during her performance in the Tokyo Olympics, opting to withdraw from her team’s final in order to prioritize her mental health. However, three years later, she came back to the Olympics in Paris and helped the United States tie with China in winning 40 gold medals, two of which she won.

Biles’s first victory happened when she helped the U.S. women’s gymnastics team win gold, and she proceeded to win gold again during the gymnastics individual all-around competition.

10. Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs

The world of celebrities was rocked in September when Combs, a rapper better known as Diddy, was charged in Manhattan federal court with an indictment stating he led a criminal enterprise since at least 2008. Among the crimes he and his fellow members committed were sex trafficking, kidnapping, and bribery.

If convicted, Diddy faces anywhere between 15 years to life in prison and is already facing over two dozen lawsuits while he awaits trial. The rapper has denied his allegations.

Going into 2025, many people will surely top headlines as Trump seeks to settle world events such as the war between Ukraine and Russia and the conflict in Gaza. Celebrities can also expect to make the news next year, as ex-Star Wars actress Gina Carano’s trial against Disney will start in late September 2025. In 2021, gun rights activist Kyle Rittenhouse became the most Googled person in the U.S. for the year when he won his legal battle.
