Full House: All 435 seats to be filled for first time since 2019
RTuesday evening will mark the solemnization of Jennifer McClellan (D–VA), the ep. winning a special election The House of Representatives in Virginia’s 4th Congressional District was elected last month. This marks the first time that the House has not had vacancies since 2019.
McClellan replaces Donald McEachin. died after being reelected in November. The 118th Congress will have the remaining seats filled unless there are sudden resignations or deaths. resigns In June, the Rhode Island Foundation will be run.

In 2019, the House was at full capacity for 6 days. This included Rep. Dan Bishop (Republican from North Carolina) getting sworn into office on September 17th after winning a special election, and Sean Duffy (Republican from Wisconsin) taking leave on Sept. 23 in order to take care of his baby boy with a defect in his heart. The House had been at its full capacity only for a couple of weeks before Mike Pompeo, R-KS, resigned as CIA director and secretary under President Donald Trump.
There are more vacant seats in the House than usual, analysis FiveThirtyEight found. Each session has had at most one empty seat in the three previous sessions. This ranges from 97% to 100%. Only 11% of the Congress’s time was used by the 114th Congress. The session with the highest vacancy rate over the past 20 years, the 108th Congress from 2003 to 2005, was fully 52%.
