A funeral was held for Houston Police Department’s Senior Police Officer William “Bill” Jeffrey, who was fatally shot while serving a search warrant. The funeral was held on Monday to honor the officer, whose flag-draped casket was escorted by HPD officers and the Honor Guard.
54-year-old Jeffrey was reportedly shot multiple times while trying to serve a narcotics arrest warrant in the early morning of September 20. Jeffrey and Sgt. Michael Vance reportedly knocked on an apartment door, where they questioned the woman who answered the door on the location of the suspect.
At that point, suspect 30-year-old Deon Ledet appeared and started firing. The shots struck the officers as they returned fire and killed the suspect. Jeffrey later succumbed to his injuries, while Vance has remained in stable condition after receiving several shots to the leg.

“To the Jeffrey family, I would like to extend my sincere condolences to you. As the chaplain to speak on behalf of the entire Houston police department, it is an absolute honor,” expressed Chaplain Vincent Johnson of Houston Police Department. “It is also an honor to take part in this service and to thank God for giving HPD a beloved brother as police officer Bill Jeffrey. I also want to thank the entire Jeffrey family for the years you shared a husband, a companion, a father and a friend.”
Jeffrey was only a few days away from celebrating 31 years in law enforcement. His wife Suzanne, who also served in the Houston Police Department, said the city “lost the very best.”
