A New York Nonprofit Organization Seeks Support After Destructive Stunt
A New York nonprofit organization is facing the aftermath of a destructive event caused by an Internet streamer. Instead of holding the millionaire responsible, they are turning to their supporters and members for help.
This incident reflects a concerning lack of respect for others’ belongings, rights, and property that seems to be prevalent in society today.
The chaos unfolded when video game influencer Kai Cenat announced on Twitch that he would be giving away products, including gaming systems, in the Union Square area of Manhattan. Without proper arrangements or permits, thousands of people flooded the area, causing extensive damage to private property, local businesses, and parked cars.
Despite not organizing a proper event or providing a venue, the crowd engaged in unruly behavior, resulting in fights, rioting, and general mayhem.

Cenat was later arrested on charges of inciting a riot and promoting an unlawful event. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
New York Mayor Eric Adams criticized Cenat and social media, emphasizing the negative impact they can have on children. He commended the police for handling the situation without any loss of life or significant property damage.
The New York Police Department arrested 65 people, including 30 juveniles, and several individuals were hospitalized due to injuries sustained during the chaos.
As a result of the destructive event, the Union Square Partnership is now seeking financial support from its followers to cover the $55,000 cost of restoring the damaged grounds.
“Union Square made headlines last week when a crowd descended on the park to see a famous influencer. Unfortunately, in the aftermath, a substantial amount of plantings were destroyed,” the organization stated in an Aug. 11 post, according to the New York Post.
Surprisingly, the organization is not demanding that Cenat himself cover the restoration costs, but rather expressing gratitude for any support his team may provide.
Local residents have voiced their disagreement with this approach. Danawyn Sherman criticized the Union Square Partnership for not holding the influencer accountable, stating that he should contribute to the restoration expenses. Another resident, Debra Beard, questioned why law-abiding citizens should bear the financial burden for the destructive behavior of others.
Considering Cenat’s millionaire status, it is reasonable to expect him to take responsibility for the damage he caused. His apologies and claims of good intentions do not absolve him of negligence. It is disheartening to see incidents like this further evidence of society’s misguided direction.
