Grand Jury Recommends Charges Against Lindsey Graham and Former GOP Senators
Georgia Grand Jury Recommends Charges Against High-Profile Republicans and Donald Trump in Racketeering Case
A grand jury in Georgia has made a groundbreaking recommendation to charge 39 individuals, including prominent Republicans and former President Donald Trump, in a sweeping racketeering case. The charges stem from alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
An Atlanta judge recently released a 28-page grand jury report, which revealed that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis declined to charge several individuals, including one sitting and two former U.S. senators. However, Michael Roman, who was not on the grand jury list, was still charged in the racketeering case, according to CNN.
Although the grand jury recommended charging 21 individuals who were ultimately not charged, including former Georgia Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, and former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn, Willis’ indictment filed last month named 19 people, including Trump.
All 19 co-defendants are facing various charges, but they are all accused of participating in an alleged conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election results under Georgia’s version of the federal RICO statute. This anti-racketeering law was designed to combat organized criminal enterprises, such as the mafia.
All those named in Willis’ indictment have pleaded not guilty. Willis intends to try the case as a whole, although some defendants are pushing back, either seeking expedited trials or requesting a change of venue.
Five of the defendants, including Trump’s former chief of staff Mark Meadows, are seeking to have their cases moved to federal court. Meadows faces charges of violating Georgia’s anti-racketeering law and soliciting a public official to violate their oath.
Attorneys Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell have filed requests to expedite their cases, aiming to face trial as early as November.
Last month, Trump was booked at the Fulton County Jail and took a mugshot, an unprecedented moment for a former U.S. president. His 2024 campaign quickly capitalized on the photo, selling merchandise featuring the mugshot and using the image to support his claims of election interference and political persecution.

The Willis indictment marks the fourth brought against Trump personally by state and federal prosecutors in as many months. The former president maintains his innocence, accusing the prosecutors of targeting him for political reasons.
These indictments have sparked a movement to remove Trump’s name from the 2024 ballot under the 14th Amendment, which prohibits former elected officials from running for office again if they have “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.” Trump’s campaign has dismissed this effort as an “absurd conspiracy theory.”
