Gaetz on Omar: I’m Just Into Her Foreign Policy

Rep. Matt Gaetz, R., Fla., praises Dem for anti-American credentials

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R. Fla.) said that he is unsure whether he will vote for Ilhan Omar (Minn.), to be kicked off the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Newsmax reports that he supports her fierce opposition. “neoconservative” Foreign policy, and pointing out Elliott Abrams’ questioning by former State Department official as an example of her outstanding work on the committee.

Gaetz’s comments Monday night threatened an attempt by Kevin McCarthy (R. Calif.), to have Omar removed form the powerful Foreign Affairs Committee based on her repeated anti-Semitic statements. Omar stated in 2012 that “Israel has hypnotized the world.” In 2019, she slammed America Israel Public Affairs Committee, which is the country’s most prominent pro Israel lobby. “It’s all about the Benjamins baby.”

Other Republicans include Reps. Nancy Mace, Victoria Spartz, and Ken Buck (Colo.).Three other Republicans, Reps. Nancy Mace (S.C.) and Victoria Spartz (Ind.), have already stated that they will vote with Democrats to keep Omar on this committee. While Gaetz says he is undecided on the vote—which will require a majority of the narrowly Republican-controlled House to vote in favor—he praised Omar for being positioning herself as a fierce opponent of the so-called neoconservative foreign policy community, members of which who served under former president George W. Bush and launched the war of terrorism against America’s enemies.

“Sometimes there is a view on foreign policy that isn’t ‘invade everywhere, try to turn every foreign land into a Jeffersonian democracy,’ and there are times Ilhan makes those arguments, and they’re arguments that are, at times, aligned with America First foreign policy,” Gaetz said.

Omar was also applauded for entering a fiery 2019 verbal argument with Abrams in his testimony before Congress’ Foreign Affairs Committee.

“Go watch Ilhan Omar question Elliott Abrams in the Foreign Affairs Committee about some of the neoconservative policies that were very detrimental in South America,” Gaetz excitedly told Newsmax

He also stated that he sees the effort to remove Omar differently from those to remove Reps. Adam Schiff (D. Calif.) or Eric Swalwell(D. Calif.) form their committees due to their support for claims former president Donald Trump was an Russian asset.

“The reason I believe a lot of Republicans want Ilhan Omar to be kicked off the Foreign Ministry is because they think it’s important.”
