Gas prices: A slight decrease at the pumps to end the weekend

Gas prices slightly decreased on Sunday, with the average price of a gallon of regular gas falling to $3.506, according to AAA. This was a slight decrease from Saturday’s average cost of $3.511 per gallon. It’s also cheaper than the end of last week, when the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.521.

The price of gas remains a vital topic heading into the 2024 presidential election. With President Joe Biden deciding not to seek reelection, Vice President Kamala Harris, now the likely Democratic nominee, will have to indicate how she would address the country’s high gas prices, energy costs, and how both affect the economy and people’s finances.

While prices have fluctuated in 2024, there has been a decrease in the pumps in recent weeks and months. Nevertheless, gas prices remain significantly higher than when former President Donald Trump was in office.

Sunday’s prices are still slightly more expensive than a week ago when the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.501. Prices are also more expensive now than a month ago when gas was $3.503.

Hawaii has the highest average price for a gallon of regular gas at $4.662 per gallon on Thursday. Mississippi remained the state with the lowest average price at $2.979 per gallon.

Washington, D.C.

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Washington, D.C., on Sunday was $3.698. That was an increase from the day before when gas was $3.69. A week ago, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in the district was $3.706 per gallon. A month ago, people in Washington paid $3.657 per gallon.

Virginia

On Sunday, the average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia was $3.393. This was a decrease from Saturday’s average price of $3.399 per gallon. Gas prices are less expensive now than a week ago when regular-grade gas was $3.421 per gallon. A month ago, a gallon of regular was $3.334.

Delaware

On Sunday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in Delaware was $3.387, a decrease from Saturday’s price of $3.396. Both prices are less expensive than last week when it cost $3.417 for a gallon of regular gas. Gas prices are also cheaper than a month ago when people in the First State paid $3.495 for a gallon of regular gas.

Maryland

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Maryland on Sunday was $3.482. This was a decrease from Saturday when regular gas was $3.493 per gallon. A week ago, the price was $3.498 per gallon. A month ago, people in Maryland paid $3.55 for a gallon of regular gas.
