Gas prices: Another day of decreases at the pumps – Washington Examiner

Gas prices across the United States have seen ⁤a decrease, with the average cost for a gallon of regular gas ‌currently at $3.308, down from $3.317 the previous day and significantly lower than prices from one ‌month ago, which were at $3.472‍ per gallon. As prices continue‌ to drop, ten states have reported⁢ averages below $3 per gallon. This trend is particularly relevant as the nation approaches the 2024 ⁤presidential election, with Democratic nominee‌ Kamala Harris needing to address⁢ these economic concerns, particularly in light of rising energy ​costs.

In specific regions, Virginia’s average is $3.174, Maryland’s is $3.237, and Delaware has ⁢the lowest in the area at $3.160. All these prices have seen decreases compared to both last week and last month, reflecting a broader ​national trend of declining gas prices after fluctuating amounts throughout this‌ year.


Gas prices: Another day of decreases at the pumps

Gas prices continued to fall across the nation on Thursday, with the average price for a gallon of regular gas coming in at $3.308, according to AAA. This was a decrease from yesterday’s price of $3.317 per gallon. It’s also cheaper today than a week ago, when regular gas cost $3.361 per gallon, and a month ago, when it cost $3.472 for a gallon. 

Moreover, the effects of plummeting gas prices have been felt throughout the country, as there are now ten states where the average price for regular gas is below $3 per gallon.

Gas prices remain an important issue heading into the 2024 presidential election. With President Joe Biden deciding not to seek reelection, Vice President Kamala Harris, now the Democratic presidential nominee, will have to indicate how she will address the country’s high gas prices and energy costs and how both affect the economy and people’s finances.

While prices have fluctuated in 2024, they have decreased in recent weeks and months. Nevertheless, gas prices remain higher than when former President Donald Trump was in office.

Virginia

The average price for regular gas in Virginia on Thursday is $3.174 per gallon. Virginia’s gas prices have followed the nation’s trend of falling prices as today’s price is more affordable than a week ago, when regular gas cost $3.227 per gallon. Gas prices in the state are also less expensive than a month ago, when it cost $3.32 for a gallon of regular.

Maryland

In Maryland, gas prices fell to $3.237 on Thursday. This was a slight decrease from a week ago, when the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.285. Like other states in the region, falling gas prices have been a recent trend in Maryland, starting nearly a month ago, when the average cost for a gallon of regular gas was $3.399.

Delaware

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Delaware on Thursday is $3.160, the lowest in the region. This slightly dropped from Wednesday’s price of $3.165 per gallon. In Delaware, like the states mentioned above, gas prices have decreased compared to a week ago, when the cost was $3.183 per gallon. Furthermore, gas prices in the First State today are lower than a month ago when they cost $3.293 per gallon.

Washington, D.C.

And last but certainly not least are the gas prices in Washington, D.C., where the average cost for a gallon of regular gas on Thursday is $3.556. This price is the highest in the region and much higher than the national average of $3.308 per gallon. Nevertheless, gas prices have fallen in the nation’s capital, with Thursday’s price being less expensive than what it was on Wednesday, when a gallon of regular gas was $3.574. A week ago in D.C., a gallon of regular gas was $3.603, and a month ago, it was $3.688.

Hawaii

Like Wednesday, gas prices increased again on Thursday in Hawaii, with the average price for regular gas now at $4.66 per gallon. This is higher than a week ago when the average price for regular gas in the Aloha State was $4.654 per gallon. However, gas prices are lower in Hawaii today than a month ago when regular gas was $4.667 per gallon. Suffice it to say that the state’s gas price has held steady between the $4.60 to $4.70 price range for the last several weeks.

Mississippi

Mississippi had the least expensive regular gas prices in the country on Thursday, at $2.839 per gallon. Like many states throughout the nation, this price was a decrease from last week, when a gallon of regular was $2.886 in Mississippi. A month ago, gas prices were slightly higher, but still the cheapest in the nation, at $2.953 per gallon.

  1. Just over 3.00 a gallon, while 4 years ago it was over and under 2.00 a gallon. Why are you crowing about the empty wallets of the shrinking of the endangered middle class?
