This marks a slight decline from $3.444 a week ago and from $3.504 a month ago. With the upcoming 2024 presidential election looming, gas prices remain an important issue, especially as Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris will need to address how high gas and energy costs affect the economy and consumers’ finances.
In terms of regional prices, Washington, D.C. sees higher gas costs at $3.658 per gallon, while Virginia’s gas is below the national average at $3.283. Maryland’s average sits at $3.366. While prices have fluctuated in 2024, they are still notably higher than during former President Donald Trump’s administration.

Gas prices in Virginia are below the national average and have been for quite some time. On Tuesday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas is $3.283. This was a very slight decrease from Monday when gas was $3.287 per gallon. A week ago, regular gas cost .34 per gallon and a month ago it was $3.429 per gallon.
Maryland

This has been a consistent trend in the state, with prices as far back as a month ago averaging $2.994 per gallon.
Hawaii
Hawaii is the state with the most expensive gas prices in the country. The average price for a gallon of regular gas is $4.664 on Tuesday. This was a slight increase from Monday’s price of $4.656 per gallon. A week ago, a gallon of regular gas in the Aloha State cost the same as it did on Tuesday. However, a month ago, a gallon of regular gas in Hawaii was $4.693.
