Gas prices in the U.S. have dropped to their lowest levels in months, with the average price for a gallon of regular gas at $3.351 as of Monday. This reflects a decrease from $3.411 last week and $3.519 a month ago. The current⁤ prices are significantly lower than those observed during the Memorial Day Weekend.⁢ As the nation approaches the 2024 presidential election, gas prices remain an‌ important topic, ⁢particularly with Vice ‌President⁤ Kamala Harris now leading ‍the ⁣Democratic ticket. Fluctuations in gas prices have been noted throughout 2024, but they have recently decreased.

In the Washington, D.C. area, Mondays average gas price is $3.602, down from $3.668 last week. Virginia’s​ average is lower at $3.223, while in ⁣Delaware, it is the lowest in the region at ​$3.195. gas ⁤prices across many states are lower today than they were last‍ year, indicating a general trend of decreasing costs despite still being higher compared to the former president’s tenure.

Gas prices dropped again on Monday, as the average price for a gallon of regular gas fell to $3.351, according to AAA. This was a decrease from the average price for a gallon of regular gas last week, when it was $3.411, and a month ago, when it cost $3.519 per gallon. Monday’s price for gas heading into the week before Labor Day Weekend, traditionally recognized as the last weekend of the summer, was much lower than the gas price on Memorial Day Weekend, recognized as the first weekend of the summer.

Gas prices remain a vital topic heading into the 2024 presidential election. With President Joe Biden deciding not to seek reelection, Vice President Kamala Harris, now the Democratic presidential nominee, will have to indicate how she will address the country’s high gas prices and energy costs and how both affect the economy and people’s finances.

While prices have fluctuated in 2024, they have decreased in recent weeks and months. Nevertheless, gas prices remain significantly higher than when former President Donald Trump was in office.

Washington, D.C.

Gas prices dropped in the nation’s capital on Monday, continuing a trend established last week. The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Washington, D.C., to begin the work week is $3.602. This was a decrease from last week when the cost was $3.668 per gallon, and a month ago, when it was $3.709. Prices are also much less expensive today in Washington, D.C. than last year, when the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.969.

Virginia

On Monday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in Virginia is $3.223. This was below the national average. Much like gas prices in the nation’s capital, Monday’s price for gas in Virginia was cheaper than what it cost last week, when it was $3.287. It’s also less expensive than a month ago when a gallon of regular gas in Virginia was $3.409. Prices are cheaper today than a year ago, when regular gas was $3.631 per gallon.

Delaware

Gas prices in Delaware are the lowest in the region, coming in at $3.195 on Monday. This dropped from last week when the average cost for a gallon of regular gas was $3.292. Prices are significantly cheaper than a month ago when residents of the First State were paying $3.42 per gallon for regular gas. A year ago, gas was much more expensive, when a gallon of regular gas cost people in the state $3.666.

Maryland

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Maryland on Monday is $3.283. Much like gas prices in the nation’s capital, Monday’s gas price was cheaper than last week’s, when it was $3.37. It’s also less expensive than a month ago when a gallon of regular gas in Maryland was $3.507. Prices are substantially cheaper today than a year ago when regular gas in Maryland was $3.74 per gallon.

Oklahoma

Oklahoma is now the state with the cheapest gas in the country, with the average price for a gallon of regular gas at $2.881. This price was slightly lower than Mississippi’s, which is $2.896 per gallon on Monday. Mississippi used to be the state with the cheapest gas in the country up until last week.

Hawaii

Hawaii remains the state with the most expensive gas in the nation, coming in with an average price for regular gas at $4.64 per gallon on Monday. This was a slight drop from a week ago, when gas was $4.656 in the Aloha State, and a month ago when regular gas cost Hawaiians $4.68 per gallon.
