Regionally, average gas prices varied: in Washington, D.C., prices rose to $3.679; in Maryland, they decreased to $3.465; in Delaware, they fell to $3.40; while in Virginia, prices dropped to $3.347. Although comparisons show that prices in some areas are higher than a week ago, they are generally lower than a month ago.

While prices have fluctuated in 2024, prices have decreased in recent weeks and months. Nevertheless, gas prices remain significantly higher than when former President Donald Trump was in office.

Washington, D.C.
Gas prices were up in the nation’s capital on Monday, with the average price for a gallon of regular gas coming in at $3.679. This increased from Sunday, when the cost was $3.686 per gallon. A week ago, a gallon of regular gas averaged $3.688, and a month ago, it was $3.7102.
Maryland
On Monday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in Maryland decreased to $3.465. This was a drop from Sunday when it cost $3.475. Prices are higher now than a week ago, when the average price for a gallon of gas in Maryland was $3.399. However, prices are cheaper now than a month ago, when it cost $3.622.
Delaware
The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Delaware on Monday was $3.40. This was a decrease from Sunday when the cost was $3.418. Gas prices are considerably more expensive than a week ago when the average was $3.293 per gallon. However, prices are less expensive now than a month ago when drivers in the First State paid $3.553 for a gallon of regular gas.
Virginia
The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Virginia dropped on Monday, coming in at $3.347. On Sunday, it was slightly higher, costing $3.353 per gallon. Both prices are marginally higher than a week ago when it cost $3.32 for a gallon of gas. A month ago, gas was much more expensive in Virginia, when the average cost was $3.476 for a gallon of regular gas.
Mississippi
Mississippi continues to be the state with the least expensive gas prices. On Monday, the average cost for a gallon of regular gas in Mississippi was $2.953. This was a very small decrease from Sunday’s price of $2.959. Incidentally, a week ago, regular gas cost the same as Monday’s price of $2.953. A month ago, it cost $3.011 per gallon. Currently, Mississippi is the only state in the nation with an average price for regular gas under $3.
Hawaii
Hawaii has the most expensive gas in the nation on Monday, with an average of $4.66 per gallon for regular gas. It was a slight decrease from Sunday’s prices when a gallon of regular averaged $4.662 in the state. A week ago, regular gas cost $4.667 per gallon, and a month ago, it was $4.702. Hawaii recently became the state with the most expensive prices for a gallon of regular gas, overtaking California, which, up until August, held this dubious distinction for every month in 2024.
