‘Gay Water’ Cocktail Targets LGBT Market Amid Bud Light’s Dylan Mulvaney Controversy
Introducing Gay Water: Celebrating the LGBT Community with Pride
After Bud Light’s controversial decision to partner with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney, many companies have tried to capitalize on the situation. However, one brand is taking a bold step forward to pick up where Bud Light left off – Gay Water.
Gay Water, launched on Thursday, offers a range of colorful vodka and soda beverages that proudly represent the gay lifestyle. While some companies have shied away from LGBT activism, Gay Water intends to stand out by embracing and celebrating homosexuality.
On the company’s website, you’ll find a video that openly discusses important topics like anal sex. The email submission form on the site even cheekily reads, “Fill our hole.”
A Brand Built on Understanding and Representation
According to the founder of Gay Water, Spencer Hoddeson, Bud Light’s mistake was not understanding their core audience and failing to publicly defend their transgender promotion. Hoddeson believes that in 2023, communication is key, and Gay Water is taking a different approach.
The brand’s name is inspired by a popular mixed drink ordered by members of the LGBT community. Hoddeson explains that Gay Water aims to create representation in spaces where it is lacking, such as liquor stores, bars, restaurants, and grocery stores. By putting a product with the word “gay” in the title, the brand itself becomes a symbol of representation.
I just got a notification that “Gay Water” is here, which is strange because we already have Bud Light. Also, just why?

Hoddeson came up with the idea for Gay Water while on vacation with a friend in the beverage industry. He wanted to create a brand that is queer and part of the community, but goes beyond the typical rainbows and unicorns associated with pride. Gay Water aims to be as inclusive as possible, welcoming allies and straight individuals to be part of the community they are building.

Gay Water is primarily sold online and offers four delicious flavors: watermelon, lime, peach, and grapefruit. A six-pack costs $18.25, while a 12-pack is priced at $36.50.
Gay Water is not the only alcoholic beverage brand featuring the word “gay” in its name. Gay Beer and So Gay Rosé are also striving to reach the LGBT community. Hoddeson believes that many brands try to acquire queer customers but often miss the mark.
With Gay Water, the aim is clear – to create a brand that understands and represents the LGBT community in the right way.
