Gayle King Promotes VP Harris During Live Broadcast: ‘Madam President’

“CBS Mornings” Gayle King, host, gave Vice President Kamala Harris a spot on the-spot Promotion During a Wednesday morning interview she refers to her as “Madam President” Their conversation was over.

King spoke with Harris just hours after President Joe Biden delivered his second State of the Union address, and the two discussed a number of topics — including whether or not Harris would be on the ticket alongside Biden if he pushes forward with a 2024 re-election bid.

King began by pointing out the fact that Biden’s speech was being viewed by some as a “soft launch” for his 2024 presidential campaign — and that supporters had been pleased with his performance despite criticism from the Right over false statements and fumbles. Her question to Harris was simple: if Biden runs in 2024, will the ticket still be Biden-Harris?

“How are you feeling about the job these days — that you’re doing — and people’s perception of you on the ticket?” King asked.

“Well, let me first of all say, as the president has said, that he intends to run and if he does, I’ll be running with him,” she said.

Harris also shared her response to Biden’s speech, saying that she felt he had remained “in command” of the situation throughout his remarks, even in the face of what she called “theatrical” behavior from Republicans during the event.

Harris, in the same vein as Biden did in his address, touted the bipartisan infrastructure law and the projects that had already begun as a result of its passage. She recognized that the Biden administration had not yet done everything they’d promised or wanted to do, adding, “We know there’s still work to be done.”

King concluded the interview with a question about classified documents and what Harris thought needed to be done differently with regard to handling sensitive information: “It seems to be equal opportunity screw-ups on both sides.” The vice president demurred, saying only that she believed there were protocols in place that were being followed to the letter.

“All right, thank you for your time, Madam President,” King said then, bringing the interview to a close.
